What is Wattson
Wattson is a Co-Simulation Environment for Cyber-Physical Systems.
It combines the networking perspective, i.e., an OT network along with potential IT infrastructure, with the simulation of a corresponding physical process. Here, the current focus are Power Grids.
While focusing on power grids, Wattson provides a generic interface which allows to use it for a completely different domain, e.g., manufacturing or water treatment plants.
Provided a suitable scenario, i.e., a description of the network topology as well as a representation of the physical process characteristics, Wattson then starts a respective network emulation and a physical process simulation (or emulation). These components can influence and interact with each other.
The co-simulation then provides a real-time digital twin of the system-under-test (SUT) and allow to evaluate its behavior under various conditions and within different use cases.
- Operational Experiments
Evaluation of how the SUT behaves during flexible scenarios. - Cybersecurity Evaluations
Evaluation of threats, risks, cyberattacks, and countermeasures in a realistic yet safe environment - Real-time Trainings
Wattson can be used as a real-time training environment. With hardware-in-the-loop, trainees can interact with a large and realistic cyber-physical system through real hardware. Wattson’s flexibility allow trainers to create different training scenarios in advance or during the training.
